MFA stands for Multi-Factor Authentication, and it is an important security measure used to protect online accounts and sensitive information from unauthorised access.
MFA adds an additional layer of security to the traditional username and password login method. It will require you to provide at least one more piece of information, for Burst SMS customers this would include your standard login credentials (email address and password), as well as a one-time passcode sent to your phone (via SMS message, email or an authentication app like Auth0)
MFA is important for several reasons:
· Stronger security: MFA makes it much more difficult for hackers to gain access to online accounts by adding an extra layer of protection.
· Protection against password breaches: MFA can help mitigate the risk of password breaches. Even if a hacker manages to steal a user's password, they still need the second factor to access the account.
· Compliance: Many organisations are required to comply with industry regulations that mandate the use of MFA to protect sensitive data.
· Convenience: With the prevalence of mobile devices, MFA has become much more convenient. Users can receive MFA prompts on their smartphones, which makes it easy to access their accounts securely from anywhere.
For Burst SMS customers MFA is currently optional, however we do strongly recommend the use of MFA to protect you and your customers.
Once you enable MFA, you will be able to select which second method of authentication you would prefer. The authentication app is the default option, however this can be changed to email or SMS. Once you have set up MFA you will need to call Burst SMS Support to make any changes to your MFA set up.
